The Green Party of Canada’s 2014 Convention will be held in Fredericton at the University of New Brunswick, July 18-20.

“We’re really looking forward to welcoming Greens from across Canada to our beautiful city this summer,” said Burt Folkins, CEO of the federal party's Fredericton riding association; the local hosts for the event.

Alma Brooks, Clan grandmother and elder from St. Mary's First Nation will welcome delegates to Wolastoqiyik territory. Mayor Brad Woodside will offer welcoming remarks to Fredericton. New Brunswick Green Party Leader David Coon will speak at the opening ceremonies, and his daughter Caroline Coon will lead the singing of the national anthem. Guest speakers at this year’s convention will include political journalist and filmmaker Michael Harris and Kevin Page, the former Parliamentary Budget Officer and currently the Jean-Luc Pepin Research Chair at the University of Ottawa.

“One of the key themes for this year’s convention will be the importance of science, critical thinking, and research in forming good public policy,” said Elizabeth May, Green Leader and Member of Parliament for Saanich–Gulf Islands. “That’s why I’m so honoured that Kevin Page will be leading a discussion on what can be done to save the federal public service.”

“I expect a large contingent of New Brunswickers will want to attend the federal Green Party convention in Fredericton," said David Coon, New Brunswick Green Party Leader and candidate for Fredericton South. "It will be a tremendous opportunity to meet people for across the country and make them aware of our vision for New Brunswick becoming a true beacon of sustainability in Canada," said Coon. "I know Frederictonians will warmly welcome the convention delegates and invite everyone to attend the Maritime Kitchen Party on Saturday night."
