February 2022 Newsletter

Moving Forward with our Plan

January 2022 started as December 2021 ended: in action!

Inspired by our new vision in place:

“Rooted in communities, we are a trusted, inclusive, collaborative party that seeks to form government, and that advocates for social, economic, and ecological well-being now and for future generations”

…we are already progressing with the planned key initiatives and actions which have also been approved for the 2022 budget. With your generous financial support in 2021, we are able to soon announce new positions available within the party to support the development of our regions. Stay tuned!

We are developing new collaborative and positive approaches to engage and get to know one another - like our first fundraising Virtual Trivia Night hosted by Kevin Arseneau, Green MLA from Kent-North.

12 teams registered and competed for the special and coveted prize of being featured in this month's Newsletter. With that said…

CONGRATULATIONS to the “Ostrogoths”

who won with 51/75 points!

A special kudos to “Les Vertueux”, “Carleton 45”, “Malachite Menagerie”, “Joyeux Lurons” and “Ron & the isolators” for winning one of the four rounds.

Thank you to everyone who participated and special thanks to Eric Allain and Amanda Wildeman for planning and assisting with this fun night.

This was not only a fundraising event but a great way to get together and share experiences. We all had a great night!

Thank you, and please email me if you have any questions on our work,

Nicolas Jelic

Volunteer Spotlight

Rebecca Blaevoet

Rebecca started volunteering with the Green Party of New Brunswick in 2020 when the Premier called the snap election. She has been a Green since before she knew the party existed, but her exasperation level with politics -as it's typically done in this country- reached the point where she thought it was time to step forward and get involved. She helped with the campaign team for Greg Crouse, the candidate for Carleton 45 and has since become more involved in the riding.

Rebecca offered to take on the role of co-chair for the PWG. She often says she knows nothing about Zoom and nothing about policy, but she does know how to listen to people. (Policy Working Group update below)

Rebecca and her husband live on a small working farm in the Hartland area and run a braille publishing business. She has developed a love of gardening since moving to New Brunswick from Ontario and enjoys making cheese. If you look carefully during a Zoom meeting, (when she is not the chair), you might find her with her knitting in her hand. She has been a choir director and has recently taken up jazz piano and the violin.

Thanks to Rebecca for her support and hard work! Dedicated volunteers, like Rebecca, are the backbone of our community.

Policy Working Group

The Policy Working Group had its first meeting of 2022 on January 20 over Zoom. We began looking at section 8, Healthcare, with a view to tidying it up, asking ourselves where statements could be made more broad or inclusive, or where the scope might need to be reworded to fit within the provincial mandate.

  • A follow-up "Healthcare" meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Feb 3 at 7:30 p.m.
  • The next full meeting of the PWG will be on Thursday, Feb 17 at 7:30 p.m.

If you would like to be part of the discussion we’d love to have you join the group!

This group is open to all active members (no experience necessary) and works on policy proposals to be presented at the AGM. Please review the policy manual before the meeting.

This will be a bilingual meeting with live translation.
